| Gender | male |
| Age at Death | 76 years, 6 months, 11 days |
Narrative
George was second son of William and Elizabeth Cape born in Underbarrow in 1784 (he puts 1786 on both his 1841 and 1851 Census). He had three brothers; John, William, and Henry and four sisters; Mary, Agnes, and two Elizabeths. He married Mary Clark in 1834 in Kendal, she was aged only 21 (citation needed) when he was 50. They had two daughters, Elizabeth Kirkby (b. 1833 who later married her cousin John Kirkby) and Mary Kirkby (b 1837) and one son George (b. 1835), who became a Reverand (though is listed at Tullythwaite House in the 1861 Census). His wife Mary died in 1838 aged only 25 (possibly giving birth, as they call the daughter Mary). George (b. 1784) was a tanner in 1837 but also the county treasurer from at least 1841 through 1851 (when he also employs 1 agricultural labourer) George lived at Tullythwaite House (built circa 1820, possibly by his father William, see his notes) from at least 1837 until his death in 1860. He advertised the Tannery at Tullythwaite House "To Let" in the Westmorland Gazette in 1854. He died on 12 July 1860 leaving GBP 1500.
